Mid-Back Pain

“No matter how much it gets abused, the body can restore balance. The first rule is to stop interfering with nature.” - Deepak Chopra

Mid-back pain typically emerges in the region between the shoulder blades, the posterior ribs, or within the 12 vertebrae that make up the mid-back, also known as the thoracic spine. Those who encounter mid-back pain or discomfort between the shoulder blades often sense it while engaging in twisting movement, or when taking deep breaths.

A prevalent trigger for mid-back pain is an injury to or misalignment of the thoracic spine or the ribs. If an external force impacts the ribs, even if the force was exerted on the front part of the body, it can incite mid-back symptoms. This arises due to irritation of the muscles situated between the ribs or the muscles at your mid-back known as the rhomboids major and minor.

This situation can also manifest quite easily during instances like coughing or sneezing. The muscles span from the frontal aspect of the ribs to the point of attachment on the spine of the mid back. Consequently, an uncontrolled cough or sneeze has the potential to induce a significant amount of discomfort in the mid-back region.

Through chiropractic adjustment, we aim to restore the alignment of your thoracic spine and ribs, thereby facilitating your body’s innate healing processes. At Adept Chiropractic, we also provide physiotherapy to reduce soft tissue inflammation to speed up your recovery.
